A massage session should always address the needs of the client. I do not believe that restricting a session to one type of work is the best way to address the ailments of my clients. Every session is going to involve various techniques from different types of bodywork with the objective of promoting greater movement and control of movement. In addition to techniques I've developed on my own, I also use the following techniques...
Swedish Massage is the most traditional form of massage. Long, flowing strokes, kneading and other strokes are used to improve blood flow to the skin and muscles resulting in relieving muscle tension. Great for relaxation, stress reduction, improved circulation, lower blood pressure, and the overall state of your well being.
Deep Tissue Massage focuses on the deeper layers of muscle and tension. Some strokes are similar to traditional massage but are slower and deeper and the area is concentrated to specific issues. It is great for people who suffer from chronic pain and hypertension.
Reflexology is the use of pressure and movement on the feet to affect the corresponding parts of the body. Many theories suggest signals through our nervous system to our brain are responsible for the power of reflexology. Benefits from reflexology may include the reduction of stress which can help with many other ailments.
Sports Massage is a great addition to the training program of athletes at all levels. It may maintain the body in good condition, improve performance, help prevent injuries, and restore loss of mobility following injury.
Prenatal Massage focuses on relieving expectant mothers of the discomfort that can come with being pregnant. It enhances the function of muscles and joints, improves circulation and general body tone, relieves mental and physical fatigue, relieves stress on weight bearing joints, assists in maintaining proper posture, and prepares the muscles used during labor.
Investing in massage is an investment in your health.
